At VAC, the gorilla is a recurring subject that connects conservation and art.

The Artists

Working in the open-air studios of VAC, our painters spend hours in front of their canvases, building up layers of colour to capture the texture of gorilla fur, the intelligence in their eyes, and the tenderness of family bonds. The work is unhurried, meditative, and deeply connected to the natural world just kilometres away in Volcanoes National Park.

Art as Conservation

Every gorilla painting sold at VAC contributes a portion of proceeds to our conservation fund, which supports habitat protection and community ranger training around Volcanoes National Park. Buying a painting is not just acquiring a beautiful object — it is an act of conservation.
